Opening Day; marks the commencement of Rifle Elk Hunting on our private ranch lease—a tradition we eagerly look forward to every year at SNS Outfitter!
For over 35 years, SNS has proudly held the hunting lease on this expansive cattle ranch. During our tenure, we have witnessed the resident elk herds stabilize and thrive, making this hunt a Wyoming icon. As we gear up for another epic Opening Day, the excitement is palpable.
This hunt is conducted via horseback, over miles of evergreen peaks & sagebrush covered ground.
As our clients arrive at camp on the eve of the hunt, they are warmly welcomed by the camp manager, wrangler, cook, and our team of experienced hunting guides. The corrals are filled with trail-worthy horses. The evening is a blend of settling in, zeroing rifles, a hearty supper, safety talks, and an early bedtime, setting the stage for the adventures that await.
Before daybreak, our professional hunting guides are already in motion, saddling horses and preparing for the day’s pursuits. After a wholesome breakfast and packed lunches, the teams disperse across the sprawling property. The vastness ensures a personalized hunting experience with plenty of hunting territory.
As the sun rises over the mountains, casting warmth over the October landscape, camp becomes an eager audience. Radio transmissions occasionally break the stillness, offering updates on the day’s progress. Our eyes and scopes are trained in the direction of the unfolding action.
One by one, the groups return, their tales echo with excitement—of encountering large numbers of bull elk, executing successful stocks, and expressing gratitude for the caliber of their guides. Each client wears a smile, eager for a hot shower and a home-cooked dinner at camp. The on-site cooler receives labeled meat quarters, while trophy elk antlers find a place of honor on the saddle rack, a testament to the success of just the first day of rifle elk hunting season.
