Experience Wyoming’s Wilderness Elk Country

About Our Wilderness Elk Hunts

Hunt the rugged wilderness of western Wyoming with SNS Outfitter & Guides. We offer both archery and rifle hunts from our remote camps in the Washakie and Teton Wilderness areas, located in some of the state’s most productive elk units. These hunts give you outstanding access to prime elk country and the opportunity to experience the West as it was meant to be. Our wilderness elk hunts have maintained a 90% success rate for several years.

Each day begins before dawn as our guides and wrangler saddle the riding stock by lantern light. Hunters wake to hot coffee and a hearty breakfast prepared by our camp cook before heading into the field. Your guide will lead you into carefully chosen areas to locate elk. Once a bull is spotted, the stalk begins, often ending with the harvest of a mature, trophy-class bull. After the shot, our crew handles quartering, skinning, and packing the meat back to camp.

SNS operates three wilderness wall-tent camps, each offering a unique way to experience the backcountry. Two of these camps are traditional pack-in hunts reached by horseback and surrounded by high-country terrain. The third camp is accessed by UTV but offers the same rugged landscape and challenging elk hunting as the others. All hunts are conducted on horseback, providing the best access to these remote and productive areas.

Because this is a highly sought-after hunt, we recommend booking well in advance. Wyoming elk preference points are essential to draw this license. If you’re unfamiliar with Wyoming’s point system, you can learn more here.

Important Hunt Information

Arrival Information:

Plan on meeting at the trailhead the day before your hunt starts. Detailed meeting instructions will be provided after the elk draw is held. Please note we do not offer airport pickup on this hunt; you will be responsible for getting yourself and/or your hunt party to the designated meeting area.

What’s Included in Your Hunt:

SNS Outfitter & Guides provides 6 nights of lodging and 5 days of hunting, professional guide service, home-cooked meals prepared by full-time cooks, and transportation during your hunt. Hunters are responsible for bringing their own personal gear, rifles or archery gear, ammunition, and gratuities. Please note while we do apply for your hunting license for you, the cost of the licenses are not included in the hunt.

Camp Amenities & Power Availability:

If you use a CPAP machine, Steamboat Camp is the best option. Located on the edge of the Washakie Wilderness, it uses a gas generator that allows CPAP batteries to be charged daily. Sheep Trap and Two Rivers rely on a solar generator, which works well to charge cell phones but does not support CPAP battery charging. All camps are equipped with satellite Wi-Fi through Starlink for guests who wish to stay connected.

Travel Arrangements:

While we do not make hotel reservations on your behalf, we are happy to provide recommendations.

License Application Assistance:

To ensure accuracy and timeliness, we personally submit your hunting license application unless other arrangements have been discussed. The type of license required (special or regular) is determined by your points and the best odds for a successful draw.

Wounded Animal Policy:

Our wound policy is very simple: if you draw blood—whether you and your guide find the animal or not—that is your animal. We will do everything in our power to find and retrieve the animal, but another animal will not be taken.

Grizzly Bears:

Camp is located within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, home to grizzly bears. All employees and guests are required to always carry bear spray, which we will provide. Full training will be conducted upon arrival at camp. To learn more about hunting in grizzly country, click here.
