Wyoming Rifle Elk Hunting During the Peak Rut

Beginning in 2026, SNS Outfitter & Guides will offer a rare opportunity in Wyoming elk hunting. Hunters will be able to pursue rutting bulls with a rifle during the peak of the September rut.

In most Wyoming units, the height of the bugling season is reserved for archery. This hunt gives rifle hunters the chance to experience bulls that are vocal, responsive, and actively searching for cows. For many rifle hunters, this is something they have never experienced.

2026 Hunt Dates

September 20 - 24, 2026
September 29- October 3, 2026
October 8 - 12, 2026

Each hunt includes:

• Five full days of hunting
• One pack-in day prior to the hunt
• One pack-out day following the hunt

This creates a full week immersed in prime Wyoming elk country.

Camp & Location

This hunt is based out of our traditional wall tent wilderness camp in the Teton Wilderness of the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Access requires a two and a half hour horseback ride into the backcountry. The camp sits within range of the historic Jackson Hole elk herd, one of the largest elk herds in the West.

This is classic wilderness elk hunting. Horses tied along the picket line. Lantern light before dawn. Bugles echoing through dark timber.

The Daily Experience

Each morning begins before daylight with hot coffee and a hearty breakfast while horses are saddled in the dark. Hunters ride out under the stars, listening for distant bugles as the mountains wake.

Expect long days, rugged terrain, and high reward. Calling, glassing, and working responsive bulls makes September one of the most exciting times to hunt elk.

Evenings end back in camp with a home-cooked meal and a warm bed inside a well-run wilderness setup. Every day brings new country to explore and the real possibility of a mature Wyoming bull.
